(More customer reviews)I got this watch on sale and decided to post the first review on Amazon. To begin with the watch keeps excellent time using the Seiko NH25A automatic movement. This self-winding movement is much better than the Miyota movements used in previous lower price point Invicta diver watches. This movement has kept near perfect time for (2) days now, only being several seconds slow. Also bear in mind that this movement cannot be wound manually as the Miyota can. The Seiko movement definitely has better reserve power.

The positives are that the stainless steel watchcase feels solid and substantial. The case back is a screw down type with an exhibition window. Invicta claims that this watch is waterproof to 200 meters, which I would question - but again you are not going to go diving with this watch at this price point. The crown is a push - pull type (not screw down) so the 200 meters is questionable. The crystal is Invicta's flame fusion, which is harder than mineral - but not as hard as sapphire.

The negatives are that the stainless steel watch bracelet feels cheap and is rather light in weight. The width of the bracelet is 20mm, which is just a bit too narrow for this watch. Invicta should have used a 22mm or even a 24mm width bracelet. The clasp is also somewhat cheap and feels flimsy. The main selling point for me when I bought this watch was the luminescence of the dial. Unfortunately this is where Invicta has failed a great deal on this watch.At most, this watch dial will only glow bright for maybe 5 or 10 minutes. Within 60 minutes I couldn't even read the time or tell the location of the hands in complete darkness. Also another negative is that Invicta did not even use their Tritnite luminous paint on the watch hands. They didn't paint those or the hour markers either. The hands are white - outlined in black and do not glow. The markers are outlined in gun metal with white on the inner markings and do not glow. Finally, another negative thing is that the rotating bezel on the watch that I received is a little on the loose side and does not properly align with the hour or minute markers (ie., 12:00 dial marker alignment with the 12:00 bezel arrow do not line up). On my watch, it was off by about a 1/2 minute mark.

In summary - if you are looking for a decent cheap divers watch to keep time - the Invicta 6027 will keep good time. The Invicta Diver 6027 has very poor luminescence and the stainless steel watchband is too narrow and light. The watchcase itself at 45mm is pretty good and has an excellent Seiko movement; just don't plan on doing any deep diving or swimming with this watch. For the price it is OK for a beater watch. If you want a better Diver watch (will cost you more) with great luminescence then I suggest one of the Seiko diver models.

One other important thing to mention - the Invicta Diver 6030 is very similar to this model (6027) except that the Invicta 6030 model supposedly comes with a 22mm stainless steel watchband according to Amazon's description. Other websites have the 6030 bracelet sized at 20mm width. Invicta's own website has no information on this.Also on the 6030 model, the watch hands are different (no Mercedes style hour hand as on the 6027 model), and the crown is somewhat larger without the crown protection as on the 6027 model. The 6030 model does have luminous hands with a luminous dial. Both models sell for the same price on Amazon.

Update: Verified that the 6030 model comes with a 22mm stainless steel watchband. Also the 6030 model case is at 45mm as the 6027 model is manufactured with a 43mm case. I actually prefer the 43mm case, but again wish that Invicta would put the 22mm wathchbamd on the 6027 model.

Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. The gear train then transmits the power to the escapement, which distributes the impulses, turning the balance wheel. The balance wheel is the time regulating organ of a mechanical watch, which vibrates on a spiral hairspring. Lengthening or shortening the balance spring makes the balance wheel go faster or slower to advance or retard the watch. The travel of the balance wheel from one extreme to the other and back again is called oscillation. Lastly, automatic movements come in different types, including movements that are Swiss-made, Japanese-made, and more.

Also referred to as self-winding, watches with automatic movements utilize kinetic energy, the swinging of your arm, to provide energy to an oscillating rotor to keep the watch ticking. They're considered more satisfying to watch collectors (horologists) because of the engineering artistry that goes into the hundreds of parts that make up the movement. If you do not wear an automatic watch consistently (for about 8 to 12 hours a day), you can keep the watch powered with a watch winder (a great gift for collectors).
